Inci Decoder

CALMING CREAM

Aqua
We used de-ionised water, which removes the salts, minerals & impurities that are normally found in tap water. The water is tested frequently to check that there is no bacterial contamination. We discovered that the tests for water in skincare are more stringent than for bottled drinking water!

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis
Sweet Almond Oil has the INCI name of Prunus Amaygalus Dulcis. This emollient helps to keep the skin hydrated by forming a barrier on the surface and locking in moisture. Sweet Almond Oil contains Vitamin A, Vitamin E, moisturising Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Zinc. If you have a severe nut allergy, this is one to avoid.

Betaine
This is a natural moisturiser with a high concentration of Betaine from Sugar Beet. It occurs naturally in plants, protecting cells from environmental damage and dehydration. The scientific data proves that it helps to hold water in the surface layers of the skin. So clever!

Polyglyceryl-3 Cetyl Ether Olivate/Succinate
An emulsifier holds the oil + water formulation together. We think of it as trying to bind a salad dressing! In the manufacturing process, the ingredients are blended together very very quickly, and then it is tested to make sure it stays in perfect condition. This is one of our organic ingredients, derived from Italian olives (yum!)

Glycerin
This is a very clever naturally derived ingredient which has some amazing properties. It is classed as a 'humectant', which literally means that it grabs on to the water in the formulation and prevents it from disappearing. The magic comes from the scientific process involved in blending it with the other products. As a base ingredient it's very gloopy, but we've used exactly the right level to deliver the great benefits without the stickiness.

Cetearyl Alcohol
A complicated sounding ingredient which is actually from a natural source! A waxy ingredient which is used to thicken the formulation.

Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil
A rich, golden, natural oat oil with some unique benefits, scientifically extracted from the oat kernel. It locks in moisture by forming a barrier to water loss from the skin, preventing it drying out. Rich in Vitamin E and Linleic acid, it is easily absorbed into the skin. Rich in vitamin E, Linoleic acid and a whole host of interesting compounds such as ceramides and phospholipids, Oat Lipid can help maintain the skin's natural balance.

Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter
Emollients help to keep the skin hydrated by forming a barrier on the surface and locking in moisture. Mango Seed Butter is rich in moisturising essential fatty acids, oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated omega-9 acid; and stearic acid.

Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil
Emollients help to keep the skin hydrated by forming a barrier on the surface and locking in moisture. Jojoba is a very common ingredient in skincare. It comes from a very hardy plant that grows in North America It thrives in the harsh, desert climate and also produces a nut which can be made into an oil. This oil is moisturising and rich in natural forms of Vitamin E.

Butyrospermum Parkii
Emollients help to keep the skin hydrated by forming a barrier on the surface and locking in moisture. Shea Butter is a great all-round natural moisturiser, containing high concentrations of fatty acids and vitamins.

Parfum
We have chosen a natural, allergen-free fragrance from botanically sourced ingrediens to minimise the chance of irritation. If in doubt, be careful and do a patch test to see if it is suitable for your skin.

Olus Oil
Playing an important supporting role, Olus Oil helps to deliver the benefits of other active ingredients and stops oxidation (because who wants rust in their skincare? Eek!)

Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer
Another impressive sounding ingredient with one very important benefit. A tiny amount goes a long way for this tried and tested thickener, and it's the best in the business for the most luxurious and smooth consistency.

Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide
BioEcolia is a patented pre-biotic which has been proved for over 20 years in the field of skincare. In simple terms, think of it as food to help grow good bacteria, which then leads to a healthy balance on your skin.

Sodium Gluconate
Pronounced 'key-lating', a chelating agent is a sort of mini vaccuum cleaner which mops up any impurities. How amazing? It only takes a small amount of this naturally derived ingredient to keep the purity and stability of the product in a perfect state.

Dehydroacetic Acid
We need to talk about preservatives. Often given a bad press (especially in 'natural' products), we've learned the facts from the best scientists in the industry. Preservatives are absolutely required in skincare products to prevent contamination such as mould or bacteria - yuck! Used at very low levels (as they are here), they are safe, effective and very gentle.

Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
Another important supporting ingredient, partnered up with Vitamin E.

Smithsonite Extract
Smithsonite is used to help create serenity and it is also rich in Zinc!

Rhodochrosite Extract
Beautifully pink in colour, Rhodochrosite is associated with the rose, a symbol of love.

Biosaccharide Gum-2
Patented ingredient 'Rhamnosoft' is a fermented sugar-based ingredient which protects the skin. It is scientifically proven to boost skin comfort, with data to show that it stimulates pleasure molecules through a chemical reaction. The ultimate ingredient for happy skin!

Camelina Sativa Seed Oil
Originating from the Mediterranean, and also called 'Gold of Pleasure' oil, this wonder ingredient contains balanced essential fatty acids, Omega 3 & 6. Did you know that they are especially important for dry skin, helping to keep skin well balanced and healthy? Omega-6 (linoleic acid) is the most important essential fatty acid in the skin. It is a building block for skin ceramides which play an important role in maintaining the skin's water barrier and protecting against dryness. Omega-3 (linolenic acid) is well known for being a powerful skin hydrator.

Phenoxyethanol
